To remove an obituary from Echovita, open the obituary on echovita.com, click Report, and fill in the removal request form at the bottom of the report page. Echovita says the form is for a member of the family or an official representative of the deceased, and that it can take up to 3 business days before the obituary is removed. If you only want something corrected, the same page has an Edit option, and there is a contact form if the Report link doesn't work for you.
Echovita publishes obituaries and death notices; its United States listing, headed "United States Obituaries," says it lets you "search obituaries and death notices." The obituary page we opened credited the family and the funeral home, and offered flowers, candles, memorial trees and a memorial shop alongside the notice. Echovita's FAQ says complete original obituaries are displayed only when given direct permission by the family or funeral home. You don't need to have posted the obituary to ask for its removal; the form asks how you are related, not whether you posted it.
Checked against Echovita's FAQ, contact page, privacy policy and terms of service (none of them shows a date), its United States obituary listing, one obituary page and the report page it links to, Google's help page on refreshing outdated content, and California's 2026 data broker registry and the California Privacy Protection Agency's data broker page, on October 25, 2026. We opened the report page to see the form; we did not fill in or submit anything.
How to remove an obituary from Echovita
- Open the obituary on echovita.com and copy its web address. You will want it if you need to follow up.
- Click Report. On the page we opened, the Report link appeared under the sharing buttons and again next to Edit. Echovita's FAQ describes it as the Report button at the end of the obituary text.
- The report page has three parts. The first two are for correcting the obituary or posting the original (see below). Go to the third, Do you want to remove this memorial page?
- Fill in your name, email address and phone number, choose your relationship to the deceased from the list, and fill in the Reason field.
- Click Send.
The page says it can take up to 3 business days before the obituary is removed. We stopped before sending, so we did not see what comes after.
Who can ask. The report page says the removal form is for "a member of the family, or an official representative of the deceased." The relationship list is long. It includes spouse, child, parent, sibling and grandchild, and also power of attorney, friend and other.
The reason. We couldn't see what the Reason field offers. If it asks you to write something, a sentence or two is enough, and you don't have to explain more than you want to. For example:
> I am the [relationship] of [name]. Our family would like this memorial page removed. The page is [web address].
If you'd rather correct the obituary than remove it
The report page offers two other choices before the removal form, and the FAQ adds a third.
- Edit. The page says that if you noticed incorrect information you can edit the page instead of filling out the removal form, and that Echovita's team reviews what you submit. The FAQ adds that you can also contact Echovita with what needs to change.
- Authorize the original. Echovita says this lets it publish the full obituary text along with the original picture.
- The location shown. The FAQ says a family member can ask to change the location on a loved one's obituary. The change is subject to approval.
The obituary page we opened also had an "Are you a family member?" link to what Echovita calls its Solidarity program, which it says lets funds generated by the obituary notice be shared with families that request it.
The contact form
If the Report link doesn't work for you, or you want to follow up on a request:
- Open echovita.com/us/contact-us.
- Enter your name and email address. The phone number is optional.
- Under the reason, choose Obituaries.
- Paste the obituary's web address into URL link to the obituary.
- In the message, say that you are asking for the memorial page to be removed and how you are related to the person.
- Click Send.
The page says only that Echovita will be in touch as soon as possible. It lists no email address, phone number or postal address. Echovita's privacy policy also mentions an online chat service.
What a removal covers
- The memorial page on Echovita. That is what the report page and the FAQ describe removing.
- The search result, after a while. The FAQ says the obituary's link may still appear in search engines for a time, and that once the page is deleted, clicking that old link leads to a page that is no longer there.
- Not the original notice. The obituary page we opened credited the funeral home that handled the arrangements. Echovita's pages don't say anything about copies elsewhere, so if a notice on a funeral home or newspaper site should change too, ask that publisher directly.
- Your own details, if you used the site. The obituary page we opened had a sympathy-message form and links to log in or register. For your own personal information, the privacy policy says to request removal through the online chat service or the Contact Us page, choosing User information removal.
How long does it take?
The report page says up to 3 business days before the obituary is removed. The privacy policy says Echovita follows up on written requests within 3 business days, and that if it refuses a request it gives written reasons. Search engines can take longer to drop the link.
If it doesn't work
- Send the contact form. Choose Obituaries, paste the obituary's web address, and give the date you used the Report form.
- Ask for the reasons in writing. The privacy policy says that when Echovita refuses a request, it gives the reasons in writing.
- Clear the old search result. Once the page is gone, Google may still show it for a while. Google's help page on refreshing outdated content describes a tool for content that was deleted from a site but still comes up in Google Search results: click Request refresh, enter the page's web address and submit. For the wider picture, see how to remove your home address from Google search results.
Echovita isn't one of the sites in Defynta's free scan, and Defynta doesn't file requests with it, so the steps above are the way to do it.
Who runs Echovita. Echovita Inc. Its privacy policy and terms of service say they are governed by the laws of the province of Quebec, and neither gives a postal address. The terms say Echovita can delete, without notice, any content that breaks them. We did not find Echovita on California's data broker registry (searched October 25, 2026), so the state's DROP tool, which sends requests to registered brokers, is not a route here.
A relative's other listings
An obituary can name the people the deceased leaves behind. If you are also dealing with a relative's other online listings, how to remove a deceased relative's listing from data brokers covers the documents brokers ask for and the order to work in.
