BeenVerified is one of the largest paid background-check services in the US. For a monthly subscription, anyone can pull a report on you containing your addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, relatives, social profiles, and in many cases court and property records. Unlike free people-search sites, the full data sits behind a paywall, but the search preview alone confirms to anyone that a report on you exists and is one click from purchase.
BeenVerified honors free opt-out requests, and the process is quick. Here's how to do it properly.
What is BeenVerified?
BeenVerified is operated by The Lifetime Value Co., which runs a family of consumer search brands built on shared data infrastructure. The BeenVerified report on you can include:
- Full name, age, and known aliases
- Current and historical addresses
- Phone numbers and email addresses
- Relatives and associates
- Social media accounts and photos
- Property records, and where available, court and traffic records
Because BeenVerified markets itself for "checking people out" (dates, contractors, neighbors) being listed there has real consequences: people make judgments about you from a report you've never seen.
Before you start
- Have an accessible email address ready. The opt-out requires clicking a verification link. Consider a masked or secondary email.
- Know your identifying details as the record shows them. You'll pick your record out of a list by age, city, and relatives, knowing what to look for prevents suppressing the wrong "John Smith" (or missing your own second record).
Checked against BeenVerified's live opt-out page and its FAQ on October 16, 2026. We read the page; we did not submit a request.
How to remove yourself from BeenVerified, step by step
Step 1: Open the opt-out search
Go to beenverified.com/svc/optout/search/optouts, headed "Looking To Opt-Out of Our People Search?" (the site footer's "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link is the other way in).
Step 2: Find and select your record
Enter your name and state, search, and select the record that's actually you. Compare age, current city, and listed relatives before you pick.
Step 3: Verify by email
BeenVerified emails you a verification link. Click it to confirm the request; BeenVerified says it uses that email address only for the verification.
Step 4: Watch for the confirmation
BeenVerified then emails you to confirm the record was opted out.
Found more than one record?
BeenVerified lets you remove one record through the online opt-out, which it says is to prevent fraud. For more than one (name variants, old addresses), email privacy@beenverified.com and it says it will help. The same address handles a record that reappears after an earlier opt-out.
People Search only
The opt-out covers BeenVerified's People Search results. The page has a separate link for its Property Search and Contact Search opt-outs, and BeenVerified notes your name may still appear in its other search services. Judges, prosecutors, law enforcement and their households covered by Daniel's Law can email privacy@beenverified.com instead of using the form.
How long does removal take?
BeenVerified says that once you get its confirmation email, the change shows in its People Search results the next time its servers refresh, in most cases within 24 hours.
Verify the removal
About a day after the confirmation email, search your name again in the opt-out search. BeenVerified suggests clearing your browser history in case an old result is cached. If your record is still there, email privacy@beenverified.com.
Why your listing can come back
BeenVerified's database refreshes continuously from public records, partner feeds, and data resellers. An opt-out suppresses the record it matched at the time, new data that doesn't match the suppressed record (a new address, a new phone number) can generate a fresh listing.
Keep your verification emails as proof, and re-check the site every few months. Or hand it to Defynta's Web Watcher. Silver subscribers can turn on monitoring, which rescans BeenVerified and the other sites we read every 30 days by default and emails you when a listing comes back.
Who runs BeenVerified. California's data broker registry (read October 18, 2026) lists BeenVerified, LLC and its subsidiaries with these sites besides beenverified.com: PeopleLooker, PeopleSmart, NeighborWho, Ownerly, NumberGuru, Bumper, ReversePhone, FreePhoneTracer, EmailFinder, FamFinder, Wingmate and MoneyBot5000. The ones that look people up by name, phone, email or address include PeopleLooker, PeopleSmart, NeighborWho, Ownerly, NumberGuru, ReversePhone and EmailFinder; check any that lists you after your BeenVerified removal.
Related sites to check next
The Lifetime Value Co. and its competitors run many similar services, and your data flows between them:
- Intelius, TruthFinder, and Instant Checkmate, the PeopleConnect network (one suppression covers all three)
- Spokeo
- CheckPeople
- InfoTracer
The master opt-out list covers every guide we've published.
Frequently asked questions
Is the BeenVerified opt-out free?
Yes, completely. You don't need an account, and you'll never be asked for payment as part of a legitimate opt-out.
Does opting out of BeenVerified cover its sister sites?
Partially. The Lifetime Value Co. operates several related search brands, and suppressions have historically propagated across some of them. Don't rely on it: after your BeenVerified removal processes, check the sister sites by name and opt out anywhere you still appear.
Will my BeenVerified report disappear from Google?
BeenVerified report pages occasionally get indexed. Once the record is suppressed, those pages die, and Google clears them out over the following weeks. Google's "Refresh Outdated Content" tool speeds this up.
What if the verification email never arrives?
Check spam and promotions folders first. If it's genuinely missing after an hour, resubmit with a different email address, some providers filter broker emails aggressively.
