Instant Checkmate is a subscription background-check site with a true-crime aesthetic, skull-adjacent branding, "criminal records" front and center. Behind the theater, it's a data broker like the others: public records, address history, phone numbers, relatives, and social accounts, packaged into reports anyone can buy.
Like its siblings TruthFinder and Intelius, Instant Checkmate belongs to PeopleConnect. That means no site-specific opt-out form exists, removal goes through the PeopleConnect Suppression Center, and the single request also covers name searches on the network's other people-search sites.
The Suppression Center's email step and its coverage notes were checked against PeopleConnect's live page on October 16, 2026. We stopped at the email step, so the screens after the verification link are described from earlier research.
What is Instant Checkmate?
Instant Checkmate reports draw on public and commercial records and can include:
- Name, aliases, age
- Current and previous addresses
- Phone numbers and emails
- Arrest and criminal records where available
- Court and traffic records
- Relatives and social media presence
The subscription model matters: a subscriber doesn't pay per report, so once someone has an account, looking you up costs them nothing. People genuinely do run these on dates, neighbors, and coworkers.
Before you start
Have three things ready:
- An email address you can verify immediately.
- Your date of birth and full legal name, the Suppression Center uses them to find every record the network holds on you. This is uncomfortable to hand a data broker, but they already have it; you're linking their records to a suppression flag, not feeding them new data.
- A calendar reminder for two days out. PeopleConnect sends no confirmation email, so you'll verify success yourself.
One more caveat: PeopleConnect is known for refusing third-party opt-out submissions, even authorized ones. This is a do-it-yourself removal, about ten minutes.
How to remove yourself from Instant Checkmate, step by step
Step 1: Open the Suppression Center
Go to suppression.peopleconnect.us (also reachable via "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" in Instant Checkmate's footer).
Step 2: Verify your email
Enter your email, agree to the terms, click Continue, then click the verification link in the email PeopleConnect sends.
Step 3: Enter your identity details
Provide your date of birth and full legal name when prompted.
Step 4: Pick out your records
The portal lists records matching your identity. Compare addresses, age, and any aliases carefully, select every record that's yours. Multiple records are common if you've moved between states.
Step 5: Set them to "Suppressed"
Choose "Suppressed" as the desired behavior for each selected record and save. PeopleConnect says this covers name searches on its people-search sites, including Instant Checkmate, TruthFinder, Intelius and US Search.
Step 6: Verify in 48 hours
Suppression generally lands within two days; allow up to a week for every site to reflect it. Remember: no confirmation email is coming.
What one suppression does not cover
PeopleConnect's Suppression Center page (checked October 16, 2026) says the free tool covers name searches on the people-search sites in its family, including TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, Intelius and US Search. The same page lists what it does not cover:
- Your name and other details may still appear in phone, address or email reports when someone searches by those instead of your name, and on registered sex offender lists.
- It does not touch account data those sites hold about you as a user, or other PeopleConnect sites such as Classmates.com.
- It does not remove the information from other sources, including the third-party sources PeopleConnect gets it from.
If you still see your data on a PeopleConnect site after suppressing, the page asks you to contact them. Judges, law enforcement officers, public officials and other protected people whose state law allows it can also email privacy@peopleconnect.us with the details the page lists (full name, date of birth, city and state, phone and email, the law you are relying on, and your protected status).
Verify the removal
In a private browsing window, search yourself on instantcheckmate.com, then sweep truthfinder.com, intelius.com, zabasearch.com, and ussearch.com. If any record survives, return to the Suppression Center and suppress it directly, it's either one you missed or a newly created one.
Why your report can come back
Your suppression covers matched records as of filing day. The network continuously ingests new public records, and a fresh record (new address, new filing, new phone) may not link to your suppressed identity. When that happens, you're publicly searchable again without ever being told.
Quarterly manual re-checks work. So does Defynta's Web Watcher. Silver subscribers can turn on monitoring, which rescans Instant Checkmate and the other sites we read every 30 days by default and emails you when a listing comes back.
Who runs Instant Checkmate. California's data broker registry (read October 18, 2026) lists Instant Checkmate LLC with instantcheckmate.com, cellphonedirectory.com, cheaterslie.com and freepeople-search.com. PeopleConnect's Suppression Center page does not name the other domains, so check any that lists you.

Other PeopleConnect sites (the Suppression Center names only TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, Intelius and US Search; verify each): Intelius, TruthFinder, ZabaSearch, US Search.
Not covered, file separately: BeenVerified, Spokeo, TruePeopleSearch, and the rest of the master opt-out list.
Frequently asked questions
Does Instant Checkmate notify people I search for, or notify me when I'm searched?
No, in both directions. Searches are invisible to the person being searched, which is exactly why suppressing your report is worth ten minutes.
Is the opt-out free?
Yes. The Suppression Center is free; no subscription or payment is involved.
Will this erase my arrest record?
No. Suppression removes your report from name searches on PeopleConnect's people-search sites. The underlying government records remain in official databases, and other brokers may still sell them, which is why a full sweep matters (start with a free scan).
How often should I re-check?
Every three months is a sensible cadence, or after any life event that generates public records, moving, court dates, new phone or utility accounts.
