US Search is one of the oldest people-search brands, now part of PeopleConnect. Here's how to suppress your records from it and from PeopleConnect's other people-search sites.

US Search (ussearch.com) has been selling people-search reports since the 1990s, it's one of the original data brokers, predating most of the sites in this space. Today it operates as part of the PeopleConnect family alongside Intelius, TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, and ZabaSearch.

That ownership determines the removal path: US Search has no standalone opt-out. You file one suppression request with the PeopleConnect Suppression Center. Its page names US Search among the sites one suppression covers for name searches, with TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate and Intelius.

The Suppression Center's email step and its coverage notes were checked against PeopleConnect's live page on October 17, 2026. We stopped at the email step, so the screens after the verification link are described from earlier research.

What is US Search?

US Search sells name, address, and background lookups drawn from the shared PeopleConnect data pool. A US Search result on you can include:

  • Name, age, and aliases
  • Address history
  • Phone numbers
  • Relatives and associates
  • Links into full background reports (criminal, court, and property data where available)

Its long history means it ranks well in search engines and carries a certain legacy credibility, people trust what they find there, which makes stale or wrong data on US Search particularly annoying.

Before you start

The Suppression Center flow needs:

  • A working email address for verification
  • Your date of birth and full legal name, this is how the network locates all of your records; approximations cause missed matches
  • The knowledge that no confirmation email arrives when suppression completes, verifying is on you

And a policy quirk worth knowing: PeopleConnect typically won't process removals submitted by third-party services on your behalf. Ten minutes of DIY is the reliable path.

How to remove yourself from US Search, step by step

Step 1: Open the PeopleConnect Suppression Center

Go to suppression.peopleconnect.us. (The ussearch.com footer links to its privacy center.)

Step 2: Verify your email

Enter it, accept the terms, continue, and click the verification link that lands in your inbox.

Step 3: Enter your DOB and legal name

These identity fields drive the record matching.

Step 4: Select your records

Review the matches (check the address trails and ages) and select everything that's actually you.

Step 5: Suppress and save

Mark each record "Suppressed" and save. PeopleConnect says one save covers name searches on US Search, Intelius, TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate; its page does not name ZabaSearch, so check it yourself.

Step 6: Verify after 48 hours

Suppression typically applies within two days; give the full network up to a week. No email will confirm it, check manually.

PeopleConnect's page also says what suppression does not do: it covers name searches only, so your details may still appear in phone, address or email reports (and on registered sex offender lists), and it does not cover account data or other PeopleConnect sites such as Classmates.com. Suppression also does not remove your information from other sources. If you still see your data on a PeopleConnect site after suppressing, the page asks you to contact them.

Verify the removal

Search yourself on ussearch.com in a private browsing window, then spot-check the sibling sites (intelius.com, zabasearch.com, truthfinder.com, instantcheckmate.com). If a name search still finds you, log back into the Suppression Center or contact PeopleConnect; phone, address and email lookups can still show you.

Why your listing can come back

New public records create new profiles, and new profiles aren't automatically tied to your old suppression. A move, a marriage license, a new phone account, each can quietly put you back on US Search and its siblings.

Re-check quarterly, or hand it to Defynta's Web Watcher. Silver subscribers can turn on monitoring, which rescans US Search and the other sites we read every 30 days by default and emails you when a listing comes back.

Who runs US Search. California's data broker registry (read October 18, 2026) lists Intelius, LLC with 22 web addresses, including intelius.com, ussearch.com, zabasearch.com, addresses.com, peoplefinder.com (not peoplefinders.com, which Peoplefinders, LLC runs), peoplefind.com, publicrecords.com, reversephonelookup.com, telephonenumberlookups.com, arrestrecordsearch.com, criminalrecords.com, easybackgroundchecks.com and others. TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate are registered as separate companies (TruthFinder, LLC and Instant Checkmate LLC). PeopleConnect's Suppression Center page names only Intelius, TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate and US Search, so check any other of these sites that lists you.

Separate opt-outs needed: BeenVerified, Whitepages, PeopleFinders, see the master list.

Frequently asked questions

Is US Search removal free?

Yes, the Suppression Center is free and account-free beyond email verification.

I opted out of US Search years ago. Why am I back?

Older US Search opt-outs predate the PeopleConnect consolidation and don't map to the current suppression system. File a fresh request through the Suppression Center, the current route.

Does suppression remove me from Google results that mention US Search?

Once your listing pages die, search engines drop them over the following weeks. Google's "Refresh Outdated Content" tool can hurry that along for specific URLs.

What's the difference between US Search and Intelius?

Branding, mostly. Both are PeopleConnect consumer products, and PeopleConnect names both among the sites one suppression covers.
